Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New Deity (DLC) | Review (PS4)

Fenyx Rising Immortals it was one of the most unexpected surprises of the 2020. In our review we said it and repeated it: Ubisoft's title was a real bolt from the blue, capable of surprising us with a series of solutions pilfered at a certain The Legend Of Zelda but apply with intelligence and a taste for fun.

The title, strong of an unexpected commercial success, is being supported by the company with paid downloadable content. There will be three Immortals DLCs over the course of this and next year, all products that will enhance the experience created by Ubisoft Quebec.

We would usually be afraid to talk about DLC because, you know, they are a great way to do cashgrabbing without any particular effort. A new divinity, the DLC di Immortals, does not differ very much from this concept but succeeds in its main objective: to entertain the player by offering other contents, not unlike those already experienced in the base game.

Il DLC in fact in question puts the spotlight on a characteristic of the base game: the resolution of puzzles within dungeons. If in the original we were dealing with the crypts of Tartar, here we will find ourselves having to interact with a series of dungeons set on Mount Olympus, for reasons that we are not spoiling too much.

Let's see together what this has to do in our review of a new divinity, the DLC of Immortal Fenyx Rising.

Zero to hero

Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New Deity (DLC) | Review (PS4)

Ok let's start with the basic questions: a new deity is an Immortals Fenyx Rising DLC sold for fifteen euros which offers a dozen hours of gameplay, offering an experience not far from the base game.

This content is set exactly after the end of Immortals Fenyx Rising base, which is why we will completely avoid talking about what happens on a narrative level. Just know that several well-known faces return and that, fortunately, the characters have remained as well characterized as in the original title, while also maintaining the splendid cast of voice actors.

If the main game was a well-made melee of free exploration, fierce combat and puzzles to solve, "A new divinity ”emphasizes the puzzles. The game is nothing more than a collection (very well done, for the avoidance of doubt) of puzzles to be solved that employ in an advanced way the game mechanics that were revealed during the basic adventure.

Roughly to complete the DLC it will be necessary to complete about twenty dungeons divided into groups of 5 based on the most important power to use to simplify completion.

The dungeons are confronting us with different types of puzzles: some will ask the player to complete very complicated obstacle courses (we swear to you that the level of difficulty is anything but trivial), some to solve some problems by moving blocks into excellent puzzles. design, others to write dynamics treatises by hammering giant balls and exploiting gravity and wind to their advantage.

The different challenges proposed are dedicated to players who already have a lot of experience with the main title and they succeed in the difficult task of taking the bar even further, without ever falling (too much) into the frustrating one.

The newness

Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New Deity (DLC) | Review (PS4)

The novelties of this title are represented by four new skills that are real enhancements of those already present. It will in fact be possible to generate tornadoes through the enhanced version ofira di Ares, Break through the immortal walls through the enhanced version of the shot of athena, carry very heavy objects or generate clones with which to exchange your body.

This new set of tools is able to make us perform very interesting actions and the fact that the character has maximum health and stamina allows the player to approach the challenges with a freedom absent in the base game. It must also be said that, unlike the base game, the absence of consumables and potions does not allow the player to break everything through farming; this in any case ensures a certain solidity of the enigmas which, fortunately for us, are more difficult to break than those present in the crypts of Tartar.

In our defense in any case we want to underline that we managed to bypass entire sections through accidental launches or experimenting with the use of the clone; the player in any case should not complain too much about this kind of content fallibility because the ways to break the puzzles they are never telegraphed, forcing those behind the joypad to use their little brain to the best of their abilities.

In any case, there is a problem: the puzzles are divided into two macro categories and the combat system is practically left aside. This unfortunately leaves a bit of a bad taste in the mouth because the goodness of the combat system remains and it would have been interesting to give the right space to battles in which to proactively use the new skills.

As for equipment enthusiasts, it must be said that the new challenges of the DLC often hide chests and chests whose contents will make the player's inventory happy. The designs of the new weapons and new armor are very beautiful, with often very interesting skills that can help the player in solving the puzzles

The technique

Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New Deity (DLC) | Review (PS4)

From a purely technical point of view we are on the same high levels as the basic version; the game on the PS4 base makes thirty frames practically granite regardless of what we can find on the screen.

Artistically speaking, however, there is nothing to complain about in the new setting. Abandoned the island of the original the top of olympus in a new divinity it appears as an idyllic place, where the sun never sets and which offers all the beauty that the Greek imagination can offer. Many of the glimpses that the game presents are able to take your breath away, also thanks to the mixes of classical architecture and the golden cumulonimbus clouds.

Even the sound sector does not offer anything brand new under the sun, with ambient songs that work and no relevant news from a purely playful point of view.

Immortals Fenyx Rising: A new deity is a good DLC, one that will surely amuse those who enjoyed the original game but who will displease someone else. Its focus on puzzles is very appreciable, providing the player with a dozen hours of gameplay full of smadonnamento and various curses but the absence of significant news could make the most picky ones turn up their noses. For the price at which it is sold, it is a dlc, in our opinion, a must for those who have enjoyed the base game. Those looking for clashes, bossfights and muscle action in general (which did not even belong to the original game) go further and wait for the next downloadable content, the one set in Chinese mythology.
