Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 2 - Special

Article by Pietro Gualano

Nacon has been present for some time on the PC and console market: the company has launched numerous quality products, while at the same time working to update and keep up with the times. The Revolution Pro Controller 2 for PS4 is emblematic in this sense, as it is a pad built on the solid foundations of the first Revolution Pro Controller (with the necessary improvements). The question, however, arises: is this controller so superior to the previous one that it justifies a new purchase? We are talking about a pad from around 130 euros (VAT included), so the buyer rightly expects an excellent product. Today, after hours and hours of playing games of all kinds with the Revolution Pro Controller 2, we're finally ready to answer that question.

The newness

Revolution Pro Controller 2 is, as we said, an improved and enhanced version of the previous Revolution Pro Controller. But what are the real news? From an aesthetic point of view, practically nothing has changed, there are no new buttons and the basic structure (very similar to that of the classic Xbox One controller) has remained unchanged. The software for configuring the profiles and managing the keys, on the other hand, has been revised and now appears simpler and more intuitive. In the past it wasn't uncommon to run into compatibility issues, but this time everything went smoothly. The D-pad can now be set to eight positions (not 4), we can freely adjust the parameters of the left stick and take advantage of the new possibilities offered by the PS4 Pro Control mode.

The greatest possibilities of customization are certainly music to the ears of users interested in taking care of every little detail to optimize their experience, but overall speaking they do not make this Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 2 really better than its predecessor. We enjoyed the 100% compatibility with PC and Mac (no matter the operating system), although we believe this pad is not enough to persuade gamers to abandon their mouse and keyboard.

The materials of which the pad is made are practically identical to those used for the previous Nacon Revolution Pro Controller, the developers have made it to prevent falls and to guarantee the user a certain comfort of use. The only note that we feel we can make is for the position of the dorsal keys on the horns of the controller, in our opinion not very apt and functional in excited situations. In terms of materials, therefore, we cannot complain: the quality is certainly good and the pad is also pleasant to the touch.

The confirmations

In the package, identical in all respects to that of the predecessor, we find exactly the same content:

- stickers to customize the controller

- three pairs of weights to manage the weight of the pad (10,14 and 17 grams, with the special key to insert them)

- a bag to put the controller in

- a USB cable

- the controller

Also this time all the products are presented well, the only difference is that the cable to connect the controller to the console is no longer a plug but has a normal USB output. On the back there are still the mode and profile buttons, useful for selecting the sets of settings adjusted through the special software we mentioned earlier. The LED around the right stick has not been moved and allows the user to immediately understand the setting used at that moment. The levers are identical to the past: the left one is concave while the right one is convex, the grip is always excellent in both cases and we have never slipped.

Finally, among the confirmations with respect to the past, we cannot fail to include the overall feeling: as we said we have tested it with different games belonging to various genres and the feedback has always been more than positive. We had a great time with shooters, but RPGs, sports and driving games also benefit (to a lesser extent of course) from the superior quality of the pad. Overall speaking, therefore, we can certainly promote the controller.

Conclusion

Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 2 is basically a revised and improved version of the old Nacon Revolution Pro Controller. The improvements are there, especially on the software side, but they don't scream a miracle despite being significant. In conclusion, the purchase is definitely recommended for those looking for a great quality pad for their PS4 (or your PC) and has not purchased Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 1. In fact, we do not believe that there are enough new features to justify a new purchase.
