After the success of the first chapter, PopCap and Electronic Arts are back in charge with Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, the series that has proven that it is not impossible to bring a franchise from the mobile to the console world with happy results. The first Garden Warfare, despite the many merits, was not without flaws and some elements worthy of revision. With this new chapter, the developer studio took the opportunity to create a bigger, more complete and more fun Garden Warfare.
Many, many things to do
The first big news of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 concerns the presence of a single player mode. In the debut chapter on console, the lack of this component was complained, which has been so cleverly added: through a path of 20 missions, it will be possible to know the characteristics of the game and the new characters available, an element that will be analyzed later in the course of this review. To access the single player campaign, and all the other modes, it will be essential to go to the main hub which replaces the more classic text menu: here it will be possible, using both Plants and Zombies, to freely explore a free area - roaming where you can also participate in challenges against hordes of enemies. Here you can easily earn in-game coins, which can be used to buy the cards Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, with which to unlock some of the characters available in this sequel. The main campaign, despite being single player, will also be tackled in co-op multiplayer, locally or online, up to a maximum of 4 players. However, the beating heart of PopCap's work lies, of course, in the multiplayer component with many possibilities available to users.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is a shooter and, despite having Plants and Zombies as protagonists, inside it reveals much more depth than one might think initially. Just think, just as an example, of the 14 categories of characters and the different skills available for each of them. To this we can add the different styles of play and their different realization also from the graphic point of view. The sequel, as already mentioned above, improves the first chapter by offering 12 maps that are always heterogeneous and colorful, one of the most marked signs of recognition of the work of PopCap Games. Once you have become familiar with the multiplayer of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, it soon turns out that the product is able to offer an endless multitude of hours of play. New character progression, many modes, collectibles, multiplayer matches and the ability to complete 100% Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 they will guarantee dozens of hours of play without ever finding a phase of tired or boredom.
What's boiling in the pot
As already highlighted, the news of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 there are many and they also concern the contents: among the new modes there is the one where Plants and Zombies will have to conquer outposts, attacking and defending until reaching the final victory. There is also the possibility to face, in a completely random way, all the modes present within Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 giving that touch of unpredictability. At the end of these challenges, mini-games will be proposed that can once again vary the gameplay, all thanks to a simple but brilliant idea. If you really want to find a flaw in PopCap's work, this can be highlighted in the fact that online connection is essential, always and in any case, even for the multiplayer mode. However, the response from the servers was always positive and never caused any sort of problem.
Final comments
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 improves, and a lot, what we saw with the first chapter. A single player campaign, a multitude of game modes and practically an infinite longevity, as well as a depth worthy of the best shooters, make PopCap's work a great product, at the expense of the need to always have an online connection.
