PS5: Sony denies having reduced the number of units produced

PS5: Sony denies having reduced the number of units produced

PlayStation 5 will have more units available in the first months of the console's launch than anyone could have imagined.

As we reported yesterday, the multinational of the mass media, Bloomberg had stated, through a new report, that Sony Interactive Entertainment it had been forced to revise its production estimates downwards (about four million units less) after significant manufacturing problems had occurred, particularly caused by sudden breaks in the console's custom chip. Promptly, the Japanese company commented on the news, saying that the information reported was incorrect.

In a new statement released to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony dismissed the report and simply claimed that what was reported was not true. "While we do not share the production details, the information provided by Bloomberg is false," Sony clearly commented. "There has been no change in the number of PlayStation 5 units produced since mass production began."

It's rare to see companies like Sony directly “take down” a report like Bloomberg's. Considering the way the news affected the company's shares this morning (in obvious decline), it would make sense that the Japanese giant wants to close this story as soon as possible.

This is certainly good news even for those who had more than some fear of being able to buy the console not at launch, but in the first months following it. Usually when a new generation of consoles comes out, the units for sale in stores go away at dizzying speeds, so knowing that Sony will not reduce the units produced, is certainly something positive. We also remind you that to ensure the satisfaction of demand in the shortest possible time at launch, Sony will use the “Air Freight” shipment. Which, although more expensive, will be drastically faster than the classic shipment by sea.

As for more information on PlayStation 5, we remind you that tonight (at 22 españole) there will be a special Showcase dedicated to the console, in which Sony will finally announce the release date and the price of PS5 and PS5 all digital. The prices are rumored to be 499 euros and 399 euros respectively.
