[Review] Darksiders 3: Keepers of the Void, a new adventure for Fury (PC)

As announced months ago, the second DLC of Darksiders 3 is finally available bringing with it a roundup of content and a vast new arsenal for our Horseman of the Apocalypse.

The Void calls

[Review] Darksiders 3: Keepers of the Void, a new adventure for Fury (PC)

Talking with vulgrim, the merchant of souls, will inform us that someone is preventing him from freely crossing the Serpentine Riftings, so it will be up to us to go to the Void to solve the problem. We will find the Stone Marauders, a very ancient race of elemental constructs that will do anything to put a spoke in the wheel. Precisely for the elemental matrix of our new enemies, the maze that we are going to explore will present 4 thematic areas related to the elements of the forms that we will acquire during the main story: Fire, Storm, Force and Stasis. In fact, each room will open immediately after the acquisition of a new form allowing us to immediately test our new skills through a series of puzzles and platformers to be solved between one fight and another. At the end of each area we will face a boss who will remain impassive to the provocations of our protagonist but who will not back down from beating you up, forcing you to at least a couple of attempts at best.

The level design is certainly noteworthy: The slow movements of the components of the different puzzles and the stoicity of the monsters present they will transport us to a place completely disconnected from the erosion of time. Although these are literally rooms suspended in the void, the coldness of the stone walls and the gray scale contrasted by the color notes of the corresponding element manage to create an evocative environment that perfectly conveys the sense of emptiness to the player.

Of course there is no mission without reward as Keepers of the Void will provide us with a new new weapon for each form once the end area boss is defeated such as the Claws of Contempt for the fire form or the Scythes of Contempt for the form of the stasis. To better prepare ourselves to face the elemental lords we will be able to equip special armor to reduce the damage suffered but the icing on the cake is definitely theAbyssal armor, pivotal element in the Darksiders saga, obtainable from the Lord of the Void upon completing the 4 areas.

Return to Darksiders 3 after a long time

[Review] Darksiders 3: Keepers of the Void, a new adventure for Fury (PC)

I have to admit that I was very excited about shooting Darksiders 3, at least until I remembered all the flaws I encountered when reviewing the base game: subdued dialogue that boils down to Fury monologues before beating up the enemies, rushed animations and sporadic game freezes. On the one hand, it was a real disappointment to note that some of the technical problems encountered in the past have not been fixed at all and indeed continue to repeat themselves even in this new release.

Final Comment

Keepers of the Void is presented as an unpretentious DLC that enriches the gaming experience without being fundamental. Once again the artistic sector, thanks to a setting and a deadly character design, exceeds the technical one that still lacks smudges that can annoy the most demanding player. If you haven't played Darksiders 3 yet, you should definitely get the complete package to have a longer-lasting gaming experience or if you are avid fans looking for a summer challenge in your umpteenth run in new game plus.
