Have you recently played Spelunky or its sequel? If so, you can understand the frustration. If not, you should know that Spelunky is a very difficult and punishing game, in which you can pay dearly for any kind of mistake or frustration. Yet, as you know, the difficulty is not contemplated by speedrunners that make any game look like one disarming ease, especially those aiming for the world record.
Youtuber and speedrunner d_tea set a world record: finish Spelunky 2 under three minutes. Finishing a game less than three minutes into the game is certainly commendable, but it becomes a first when the title in question is a platform roguelike old mold in which the first run lasts about forty hours. Not bad, right?
The feat recorded and posted on Youtube shows the speenrun, d_tea moves forward in the level almost with eyes closed, planning her moves with unique, almost maniacal fluidity. There is no pause, no slightest hesitation. The final battle, against Tiamat, roughly takes a good half hour away in the average gamer. Tiamat, a gigantic statue, calls to itself all the enemies who have already appeared in the other levels, ready to "slaughter themselves" against our hero. For d_tea, however, it is a simple victory, almost of little consequence. The official speedrun time is 2:53.766.
