Speedrunner takes 13 years to use a Mario Kart Wii shortcut

Mario Kart Wii is almost 13 years old but some fans are still playing the title in search of hidden secrets and shortcuts that populate the kart tracks.

Almost a decade after the game was released, a streamer and speedrunner named ArthurMKW he finally used a shortcut, hidden from most people, which allowed him to finish the race in record time.

Mario Kart's speedruns are extremely competitive and players around the world are constantly competing for the "best time". One course that has remained a popular choice among Mario Kart sprinters is the hardest track in the game, the rainbow road. The colored course is among the most difficult due to the tight curves, the speed arrows, jumps and the lack of guardrails.

Over the years, gamers have evaded the timer in the most imaginative ways, but ArthurMKW - who shared his record with the Twitch community - succeeded in the feat: at the start of the race he reversed immediately after the first guardrail. Walking on the edge keeping to the right, with a boost he managed to launch himself towards the other side of the Rainbow Road track, arriving in a few seconds at the final finish. Incredible, right?
