On October 27, 2021, a new one was held State of Play, Sony's usual showcase, this time focused on third-party titles in development for PS4 and PS5. The event stood out for a limited duration and a focus on some indie titles, on the whole certainly a modest event which shows a certain difficulty for Sony to cover the Christmas period with significant news. Here are all the announcements.
Deathverse: Let It Die
Opening the announcement by Deathverse: Let It Die, spiritual sequel to Let It Die, free-to-play-multiplayer by SUDA 51 (we don't know if this too will be free-to-play) with a death game narrative framework and mass media criticism. The game looks technically rather dated, but we know that in this genre it's the gameplay that counts, and from this point of view the title could have the eccentricity necessary to stand out from the crowd. We look forward to learning more. Expected release in spring 2022 on PS4 and PS5.
We are OFK
We are OFK is a 5-episode game focused on the virtual band OFK , which had already performed at the previous The Game Awards. It is not clear what the "game" will consist of, which looks more like a promotional vehicle for the band: each episode will in fact focus on a different original piece of music, and will offer information, curiosity and background on its genesis. It will arrive in the course of 2022 on both Sony consoles.
Bugsnax – The Isle of Bigsnaxs
The first expansion for Bugsnax has been introduced. The Isle of Bigsnax will introduce a new map, new giant monsters and a housing mechanic that will allow us to build, furnish and decorate our home. This is a free update coming in early 2022 on PS4 and PS5.
5 Nights at Freddy’s – Security Breach
New chapter of the horror series, 5 Nights at Freddy's - Security Breach is back to show itself with a new video which features some of the protagonists of the game as well as some innovative feat, like a robot that we seem to be able to take control of to defend ourselves from the evil assassin animatrons. The game is expected on December 16, 2021 on both Sony consoles.
Death's Door
Death's Door, the Acid Nerve action RPG published by Devolver, will arrive on Sony consoles on November 23rd and to celebrate a short video has been released, announcing that anyone who pre-orders it will receive a free copy of Titan souls.
Kartrider Operation
In the frantic wait for a hypothetical new Crash Team Racing, we will be able to pass the time with another multiplayer online kart game: Kartrider Operation, already very popular in Asia, will arrive on PS4 and PS5 in 2022 and will be free-to-play. Below is the announcement video.
The King of Fighters XV
The famous fighting game The King of Fighters XV is about to arrive: it has been announced Dolores, new playable character, as well as the opening of the public beta from November 19-22. The game will instead arrive on February 17, 2022 on PS4 and PS5.
First class trouble
First Class Trouble is defined as an "online social deduction game": the concept foresees matches between 6 players, which at the beginning of the match are divided into two factions (human and cyborg) and each one is assigned a secret role; the heart of the game is therefore the oscillation between collaboration and competition in an environment where nobody can be trusted (someone thinks of Among Us?). The title is coming on November 2nd.
Star ocean
Surprisingly, the historic Japanese developer specialized in JRPG appeared on the tri-Ace scene, proposing a new chapter of one of his most famous series: it is Star Ocean – The Divine Force, an action-oriented RPG with an open-world layout, coming to both Sony consoles next year. Little devil inside
At the end of an event that is anything but memorable, here is appearing from oblivion Little devil inside, which finally returns to show itself after many had given up on the project, given the scarcity of information leaked over the years (it has been in development since 2015!).
